Buy that tub of butter
And the coffee grinder,
Perhaps a new microwave
And of-course a new blender.
And sell yourselves away to make it better;
Ignore
That deep inside of you
Sprouts whole fields
Of wildfire in mania-
Your secret discontent.
And we're growing older now,
Should have left it at the door
Where bags departed
And adventure sprung forth-
Should have left the past behind us,
But it chases us to find
Us
And remind us
Of what we've been running from since
Before we broke it off.
It seems
Like dreams are never pursued anymore.
Sell them away for cheap laminate;
Glossy "fo" wood floors,
And beds
With no guarantees;
That only dream of rings-
Because true fairytales don't happen anymore.
Or you chalk this up to
One this time
Because it's your first
So it should be your last
And that's okay with you
So you bury your head in the sand
Without wincing.
And here
Far away--
These rolling hills-
Upon which I've stood and watched it all-
Scream with agonizing pain!
Turn back!
Not because of my hate or rage
But my sympathy and fear,
For the pool of apathy
You're about to dive into.
It's changed-
All that I felt.
And I kneel beside you,
And weep for you now.
Weep due to your ignorance
And for your innocence-
Which you're contracting away
With your body-
And making it okay,
Because the tub of butter is exciting,
For the newly united
Cake-bakers
And they're burden-drowners
For
Foolish
Lost
Mistake makers.
